Bricking has started

We have both decided that we love the colour of our bricks!

For me, as confident as I am with our colour selections, it is a little scary to trying to visualise how it will all hang together, especially since it has been close to a year since we made our selections.

All is going to plan so far. There are still a couple of little bits that need to be fixed.

Last week, we were lucky to bump into the building inspector while we were visiting the house. He pointed out a few things he asked PD to fix before they can give it the tick of approval. It’s always good to know that there is a pro overseeing the work being done and ensuring it is done properly.

Roof is complete

We are really happy with the progress so far!!! It's about the 7th week now...

The plumbing is underway and both the gutter and roof have been completed. There are a couple of things that we noticed didn't look completely right.
1. A supporting beam runs right along where the laundry chute is meant to be and
2. The rumpus/stair void wall hasn't been catered for.

The building supervisor was right on it and has told us he would have it all sorted out...

We also asked him if we would be able to get a diverter attached to the existing plumbing in the master en suite so we can install a second shower head. He said it wouldn't be a problem and that he would speak directly to the plumber as it wasn’t in the final drawings. So all in all, everything is looking great and running smooth.

Work starts and the slab is poured

I am quite impressed so far.
The slab was laid on time and the framing has started this week (photos to come).

Nick and I went to inspect the slab on the weekend. It looks surprising small even though the house it self is quite big. It's amazing to think all that house is going to fit!

While there, we met a couple of our neighbours, which was really nice. There is a really good vibe at the estate. Houses are starting to pop up around us...and people are excited.

Slab is laid on the 6th August

Work surprisingly begins on time

Our settlement

Our Piece of Land

It as has been such a long wait but it has finally happened (and with hardly any hick ups at all).

Last month (June) we finally settled on our piece of land....YAY! I say it has been a long wait but really, the time went by pretty quick. We already have a home loan and house to live in, so there hasn't been that sense of urgency, only more time to try and save. :)
It has taken about a year for the roads to be formed and the settlement to go through. Now, we just need to start the build. Up until the weekend, PD haven't been all that forth coming with information regarding the start date despite numerous calls to the administrator.

This weekend that changed and we were advised build has been scheduled to start in approx two weeks provided everything goes well....

Design and Colour....

Here is a snap shot of some of the colours and designs we have opted for. Nick and I did okay with the decisions.... him better than me. We are both very visual people so the display homes helped a lot.

We went to colour appointment last week and we decided on the following:
Roof - Sambuca Colour
Guttering, downpipes - Woodland Grey.
And Fascias - Paperbark
Windows would be grey (after much deliberating)

We had a talk about it later on that week and we decided we preferred that the fascia and guttering would look better as one colour. So they will both be change to Woodland Grey.

We were also very hesitant about the Grey windows/doors, so we decided that we prefer the contrast look and will change this colour from grey to black.

I hope we are making the right decision. I haven't been able to find a picture of a house that has similar brick colour with black windows so if anyone knows where I can find this without driving around.... that would be much appreciated.

Facade Design:

We chose the Homested Mushroom brick with a flush finish off white mortar. This sample makes the brick a lot lighter than what is looks like in person.

Here is a house built using this brick:

The Marriot 48- Floor Plan

Here is the original floor plan.

We have made some modifications to make it more practical. We decided to combine two upper en suites into one main bathroom. It seemed very unnecessary to have an en suite for every bedroom.

We also added a wall between the front lounge room and the dining room, along with a couple of doors in that front entrance hallway so that we could separate the main living area to the front and up stairs rooms. We did this to help reduce the amount of noise travelling upstairs and for energy efficiency.

Our Bit of Land

We are very excited about building our home !!! Although, we are also very weary that we have a very long way before we move into our new home. We estimate we will move in around Dec 2009, maybe even Jan 2010 (based on what some people have said).

We decided to build the Marriot 48 with Porter Davis. It's a lil big but we instantly fell in love with the design and we both think it will be a perfect family home in the long run.

The land hasn't even been released yet as they have only just started constructing the roads. We were originally told it may be released in March-April 2009. Now, April-May 2009... and so it begins :)
